Sam Curling

Sam Curling's experience and passion for horses started from a young age. Sam grew up with horses and enjoyed many years of  hunting and eventing. During his early riding career he worked as a conditional jockey for top trainers such has Edward O Grady, Willie Mullins and Nicky Henderson. After retiring from race riding, Sam worked at Ballydoyle Racing riding top class flat racehorses such as St.Nichols Abbey and Septumos.

In 2010 Sam returned to his home property in Skehanagh where he has developed Sam Curling Racing into a top quality training yard with a range of facilities. Services includes breaking,

training, sales and summer grazing.

Since taking over Skehanagh Stables, Sam alongside his wife Zoe has trained 213 point to point winners as well as many winners on the track and sold over 100 horses through Goffs and Tattersalls along with many other successful private sales.

 

Sam is now one of the top P2P trainers in Ireland finishing in second position for the handlers title this season. In 2019 he  trained Longhouse Music to become the first ever mare to win both the Champion Point to Pointer and Champion Mare titles. Sam went on to win the Champion Mare title for 3 seasons ina row with Le Feline 2022,2023 & 2024. Sam trained his first Cheltenham Festival winner in 2023 when Angels Dawn won the Kim Muir Challenge Cup. He went on to win his second Cheltenham Fesitval winner 2 years later when Wonderwall won the St.James Place Hunters Chase. Sam picked up the award for Chamption Horse at this years P2P awards. He has trained many other horses to be successful in their future racing careers, successful graduates include Marine National, Longhouse Poet, Vaniller and Summerville Boy

Sam and Zoe live at Skehanagh Stables along with their three children Bella, Evie and Tilly.
